Breast Reduction

Important question??

I WAS WONDERING WHAT KIND OF FORMULA NEWBORNS WOULD USE?? I'm unable to breastfeed due to complications from a breast reduction, however I was wondering if there was a certain kind with certain things in it for newborns?? Or does it depend on what his condition is when born....of what kind he will need?? in other words should I wait til he's born before buying any formula?? Or will the sr recommend a certain kind once he is born??

  1. Your doctor should tell you. Good luck and congrats :D
  2. Enfamil is the best - i ask the doctor with my baby.
  3. It really does depend on any conditions present at birth. I would do all of your research and save each type in a folder on your computer. That way when you find out which is the right one at birth, you already have all of the research as to which "best one" you will buy.
  4. Ask the pediatrician that you will be going to. The hospital should supply you with some as well. I used similac advance to supplement with my son, and i never had any problems with it.
  5. There are a lot of formulas out there and many are similar. You may want to use the formula they provide at the hospital or you can ask your pediatrician for a recommendation. I recommend Nestle Good Start. Good luck!
  6. ask your pediatrican, especially if allergies run in your families. .....some kids can develop food allergies to the ingredients in formula, like soy or milk products and then you really have to be careful, so ask the pediatrician, NOT the nurses who like what they are used to at the hospital.
  7. I think it may depend on the hospital you deliver at. My son was started on Enfamil in the hospital. He continued on that for a few weeks. Our pediatrician instructed that with today's formulas Enfamil and Similac are interchangeable and should not affect him. We have used both during the past 5 months with no problems changing between the two. In all honesty I buy the brand I have the better coupons for. At $25 a can this does factor into which kind I buy. I would also wait until after your baby is born. He/she may require a certain type due to reflux, colic, etc. Some are soy based. I would wait and see also due to expiration dates on the cans. You will also need to decide if you are going to do the pre-mixed liquid or powder. I prefer powder because you don't have to worry about keeping it cold when traveling or going out. That is just my preference though. Good luck!!! PS - Don't let the anti-formula responders make you feel guilty either!! Breast feeding is not for everyone and a very personal choice if you are not going to. Also, expect the question of whether or not you are breast feeding to be one of the first out of everyone's mouths after you have your baby. It is amazing how many people feel they need to know if you are breast feeding or not and will love to give you their unwanted comments. Been there..... lived that. :)
  8. My wife and I used enfamil. It was a good choice and there were plenty of coupons available. All formula is pretty expensive, a large can is between $19-24 a can. Most formulas are certified by the FDA and have all the nutrients that a baby needs. Go online and try to see which formula will be best for your baby: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/71659/how_to_choose_the_best_baby_formula.html
  9. well i would buy a few cans of different kinds if your baby isn't born yet but don't get to much in case the baby dosent agree with it,but similac is one of the best kinds but tends to make most baby's constipated, one me and lots of ppls i know is Nestle good start with omega 3 and omega 6 its really good my son is on it and he uses the bathroom regularly, and its an easy to digest formula and if you go on this site you can sign up and get free formula in the mail,i did it about 10 times and ive got tons in the mail!!! even a free baby bag and cupons!!http://www.nestle-baby.ca/en/products/formula/starter/good_start_omega.htm good luck hope i helped:)
  10. I can only attest to my 8-mo-old boy, but ...my husband is lactose intolerant and so we didn't want to go down a possibly terrible road whittling down formulas. We started on soy-based and have had absolutely no problems. I even asked the doc about the safety of soy and got tremendous reassurance from him. I've used all different brands, Similac, Enfamil, Parents Choice, Nestle Good Start; but all in soy with good results. The doc's nurse told me that there really is no difference between the brands because they all meet the set pediatric standards. Good luck!
  11. I have used Similac Advanced with both my kids and have had no problems. They improved the digestability and I can tell. My baby rarely passes gas. Trust me that this is a big issue. Nothing is worse than a newborn with tummy trouble. In your case, I wouldn't "stock up" until after the baby is born and you try your first week of feeding. If that goes well, then stock up. I wasn't able to breastfeed any of my 3 kids and they have all turned out great. No problems from the formula or immunity issues. I think they have just about perfected formula to be as close to breast milk as possible. Good luck and just know that you really can't go wrong with todays formulas, no matter which you pick.
  12. I use S26 gold for my son:) It was a trial and error until we found one that he liked the most and was the most satisfied on. I prefer S26 because not only does it in come in the can it also comes in 250mls juice boxes(just pour and feed) and 120mls satches which are great for travelling no mess no fuss.
