Breast Reduction

freezer burn from an ice pack - post surgery? PLEASE HELP?

i Had gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction) 5 weeks ago. My dog jumped on my chest while i was sleeping today and to prevent the area from swelling or bruising i put an ice pack on my chest/nipples. I was wearing the ice pack (no towel or anything) for 5 minutes when i felt a sharp sting/burn in my nipple i put the ice down right away and am wondering is that freezer burn ? can i do damage to my surgical area like make it raised or puffy?

  1. I think, and I am not for sure, but freezer burn would only happen if you kept the ice on for to long. I used to be a college pitcher and we put ice bags directly on our skin for 20 minutes. It was uncomfortable, so I bet that is what you are feeling. Icing is never fun. Freezer burn hurts like hell and takes a couple of hours to burn off. I know because I did it to my knee one time by icing it for too long. Good luck.
  2. No pun intended, but you've experienced what is called "frost nip." This is a much less severe form of frost bite. It happens when the skin cools too quickly. Your bodily rapidly lets you know that something is wrong by sending a painful signal to your brain so you'll stop it. Frost nip heals more quickly than frostbite and is not at all serious unless you continue to nip the same area repeatedly.
