Breast Reduction

Breastfeeding/had breast reduction surgery in the past?

My sister had a breast reduction surgery years ago. SHe had one baby and tried to breastfeed but couldnt. She did pump and got just small amounts of milk. She is getting ready to have her 2nd child and wants to try again, or at least give the baby as much milk as she can get. Is there anything she can do to increase her milk besides lots of pumping? Would the herbs and teas and mothers milk work in this situation? any advice would be greatly appreciated. I breastfeed but am not sure what to tell her in this situation.

  1. Women who have had breast reduction surgery can breast feed but they often have the result that your sister did. Unless her surgeon took care to preserve as many milk glands as possible then she will probably have a hard time breast feeding exclusively. She should consult a lactation consultant about what to do to increase her milk supply. They may be able to suggest some things! Good Luck!
